What were you like as a twelve-year-old?
I dreamed of having a horse, but my parents said, “NO!” Unable to give up my dream, I dove into babysitting and lawn-mowing marathons, anything to earn horse money. I devoured horse magazines and horse care books. Still, my dream remained out of reach…
Then came a move to a new state, and seizing the opportunity, I convinced my parents that my first friend in the new place should be a horse. I ended up with an unruly grandkid of the legendary racehorse Bold Ruler! My youth became a non-stop thrill ride of taming and bonding with my spirited four-legged friend, who I’m certain was part wild dragon.
Did you have a favorite subject in school?
Not studying! I wanted to spend my time exploring the woods by my house that reached to the Puget Sound. Still, somehow, I racked up good grades and behaved—the perfect cover for stealthy fun… I was, and still am, a life-long instigator of playful pranks! One time, I pulled off a legendary chair caper with my best bud, snatching every teacher’s cherished seat and stacking them in a favorite teacher’s office. A heist to go down in school history! The chaos, the laughter, the secret life of making people smile—my trusty friend and I were the masterminds behind it all!
As an adult, do you still enjoy the outdoors?
You will NEVER find me growing a vegetable or flower garden. But I REALLY love trees—and the thought of other worlds. Recently, I planted two giant sequoia trees, imagining them turning into a treehouse wonderland to live thousands of years, into a future where spaceships (or dinosaurs) replace cars for transportation!
Besides writing, what do you do for fun?
I’m all about having a blast at theme parks with my family. Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure—top picks for sure! I’m buzzing with excitement for the grand opening of Universal Epic Universe! Racing on roller coasters and exploring lands straight out of the coolest stories—it’s going to be a screaming good time!
What’s your day like when it’s not ablaze with adventures?
I slip into my secret attic hideaway to weave magical tales. As the sun retreats, I grab a quick forty-minute run before snuggling up with a captivating library book. Page after page, I visit fantastical worlds until tired yawns nearly force my eyes shut—that’s when I switch to an audiobook jam-packed with amazing character voices. It’s no wonder kids (and I) adore being read to sleep; it’s like having your favorite hero escort you into dreamland.
